Going up Holme Clough a little way east of Greenfield Reservoir under Saddleworth Moor.  Summary verdict: just one grade 1 waterfall, otherwise lots of pools and cascade clambers

Route in: park on A635 Saddleworth Moor small car park and walk/clamber down Rimmon Pit Clough or (easier but a little longer) park at Binn Green and walk up past Yeoman Hey and Greenfield Reservoirs

Start point: enter the brook just above the pool where it meets Birchen Brook around OS ref SE 03818 05016

Grading: there is one straightforward grade 1 waterfall and a lot of cascades and thigh-to-neck-deep pools

End point: where buggy tracks cross the brook with a metal plank around OS ref SE 04840 05355

Route out: follow the buggy tracks up north side of clough and then curving left to run up Rimmon Pit Clough and back to the A635 if parked there, or just cut directly north across country to the car park; for Binn Green, follow buggy tracks along the south side of the clough, descend steeply to the Rimmon Pit junction and then walk back down Holme Clough and out from there

Time: c.50 mins from either CP to start point; 70-80 mins up the clough; then about 30 mins to walk back to A635 CP or 80 mins back to Binn Green

Combine with: Rimmon Pit or Birchen cloughs

Gear: wet scramble gear (pools up to neck depth); helmet not used

Verdict: an easy, beginners’-type scramble that’s quite slippery, uneven and without much challenge
