Going up Greenfield Brook that runs east from Greenfield Reservoir under Saddleworth Moor. Summary verdict: more of a walk than a scramble, with just a few pools and clambers
Route in: park at Binn Green CP or nearby lay-by on A635 above Yeoman Hey dam
Start point: near concrete weir on brook above Greenfield Reservoir at OS ref SE 03151 05260
Grading: a grade 0.5 only – mostly walking up the brook and in places overgrown, with a few deep pools and some small cascades; a very few small clambers; not particularly slippery
End point: below the bridge where Birchen Clough forks off to the right at OS ref SE 03793 05014
Route out: walk back down the path that runs alongside the brook, and then round the south side of Greenfield and Yeoman Hey reservoirs back to the CP. Alternatively, extend scramble into Birchen or Holme Cloughs
Time: just over half an hour from CP to start point; then about one hour ascending the brook; then about 50 mins to walk back
Verdict: not much actual scrambling and gentle gradient means only good if you wanted to introduce an absolute beginner e.g. a kid
